		<description>So-so &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;
Studies on Self-Organization (So-so) is an ongoing study on the relation between images and time, image understood as phases of a genetic cycle that gives place to imagination.
It began as an audiovisual essay built in response to atta, treating image and sound as two time-making systems that sometimes lock together, sometimes drift, and sometimes interfere. Rather than illustrating the music, the montage tests how synchrony and dis-synchrony can produce a “third” rhythm that belongs to neither track alone, but emerges in the viewer’s experience.

All visual materials are sourced from others: individual makers, scientific publications, and public institutions that each describe their images as forms of self-organization or self-determination within their own contexts. Reframed through editing, these fragments move across scales, from microscopic and cellular processes to weather systems, social movement, and cosmological simulation. Texture and light function as temporal agents—grain, noise, surface detail, and shifts of illumination become rhythmic events—so that time is felt not as a grid imposed on the work, but as a pattern that appears, stabilizes, and dissolves through interaction. The piece proposes montage as a method for thinking across scales, where perception becomes the site in which disparate processes briefly cohere, then separate again.Through its own process of individuation, the work became an audiovisual performance in which montage emerges through the unfolding of the performance and the experience it produces. Visual montage and analog sound synthesis enter into a relation of mutually induced individuation, a formulation borrowed from magnetic induction theory, in which transformations in each process induce transformations in the other while their temporal relation is constituted through performance. A first exercise in this form was presented atFestival Temporal, at Galeria MIRA in Porto, on 9 July 2026.

atta begins from the gesture of leafcutter ants, who displace fragments of their environment to grow the fungus that sustains them — a form of collective, proto-technological intelligence. In sound, this becomes an ecology of signals that are dislocated and fed back into themselves, continually reorganizing their own conditions of existence. Rather than reproducing natural sounds, atta stages logics of interdependence and transformation, inviting listeners into a space where nature and technology blur, and perception becomes a shared act of resonance.

Atta is a sonic exploration of extended ecologies, where organic and synthetic agencies interlace to co-create new auditory experiences. At the heart of this album lies a custom sonic device that synthesizes sound—not by mimicking the natural world, but by being dynamically modulated by it. These modulations are informed by natural soundscapes unfolding across multiple scales: from expansive environmental forces like wind and weather, to the delicate patterns of insects, birds, and other small-scale phenomena. What emerges is a soundscape that is artificial in material but animated by living rhythms, shaped simultaneously by ecological dynamics and the performative gestures of the artist.

The title Atta refers to the genus of leafcutter ants, remarkable organisms that embody a kind of proto-technological intelligence. Their social structures could be seen as a form of distributed technology—an intricate choreography of roles and behaviors. More compellingly, their act of cutting leaves to cultivate fungus functions as an externalized digestive system: a living prosthesis. In Atta, this relationship becomes a metaphor for the technical entanglements present even at micro-ecological scales.

Through this work, Atta invites listeners to consider how meaningful and productive relations might emerge from hybrid, interdependent systems—between nature and machine, organism and algorithm, gesture and modulation. It does not seek to imitate nature, but to become-with it, offering a sonic terrain where sensitivity becomes a mode of collaboration.

		<description>Attunement&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;Attunement&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;Attunement&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;Attunement&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;Attunement&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;Attunement&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;
Attunement is an immersive, interactive, site-specific sound installation commissioned for Sound in Museums 2025 at the National Museum of Music, Mafra, Portugal, created in collaboration with Nous Sonic and CulturalMark.&#38;nbsp;Sound in Museums 2025 Conference at the National Museum of Music, Mafra, Portugal.
Attunement proposes an immersive sound installation for the Expressions of Power room at the Museu Nacional da Música, Mafra. Using the NOUS Sonic headphone-based spatial audio system, the work invites visitors to explore the museum’s collection through sound — transforming the act of listening into an encounter with the material and symbolic resonances of musical instruments.

Rather than presenting a fixed composition, Attunement unfolds through the agency of listening. Visitors move through the space, and their proximity to the instruments activates and modulates the sonic environment. In this way, each listener becomes a participant in the creation of the piece — composing through perception, shaping time and space through the act of listening itself.

						In Attunement, listening is understood as an active, generative act — a way of engaging with the world that
produces meaning rather than merely receiving it. Each visitor’s listening shapes the work’s temporal and
spatial unfolding, producing an individualized yet collective experience.

This listening agency redefines the relationship between audience, artwork, and institution. Power — the
thematic core of the exhibition — is here experienced not through domination or control, but through
sensitivity, awareness, and relational presence. The visitor’s attention, their curiosity, and their way of
inhabiting the sonic field become the forces that give form to the piece.

In this sense, Attunement transforms the museum space into a living instrument — one that resonates with
history while inviting new forms of perception and shared authorship.

Colaboration with artist Luiza Baldan
&#38;nbsp;The project investigates memories, landscapes and community relations in Cova do Vapor, Portugal. Between meetings at the Vapor Library, life stories and sensory observations, it seeks to recover affections and narratives of a territory in constant transformation. Guided by a publication built on shared observations about belonging, identity, and resistance, the project brings together Baldan's text and photographs and a video made with Patrícia Black that combines two performances made on the beach with residents of the village. From this video, Baldan conducts performance talks alongside sound artist Nico Espinoza. The work as a whole reflects on the continual reinvention of this and every landscape.(Luiza Baldan, 2025)

		<description>linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;linde&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;
Linde is the result of a collaborative artistic exploration with the researcher Alfonso Renart and the ‘Circuit Dynamics &#38;amp; Computation’ laboratory.

Quadraphonic piece performance at Champalimaud Foundation Amphitheater, Lisbon, 22.05.2025.
Linde is a multichannel minimalist sonic performance that investigates the thresholds of spatial and auditory perception. Rooted in a revisiting of Diana Deutsch’s research on auditory illusions—especially her experiments on lateralization and pitch—the piece examines how small shifts in pitch and timbre can alter the listener’s sense of where sound is located.

Electronically synthesized fragments emerge, drift, and dissolve across the space in real time, producing subtle acoustic illusions and spatial displacements. These restrained sonic events open a field of perceptual ambiguity, where location feels unstable and listening becomes an active negotiation. Across a finite duration, Linde traces a delicate crossing between presence and absence, revealing how easily auditory perception can be deceived—and how it transforms over time.

Full video performance.
The work was also presented at Lisboa Soa 2025 on&#38;nbsp;19.10.2025.

555 is the outcome of a residency at the Espacios Resonantes Festival in April 2025.

Rather than proposing a finished piece, I initiated an exercise in exploring the underground reservoir. I conceived this process as a gesture of sounding—a word that, in English, holds all the intentions that guided me: to give voice to a particular situation, and to probe a territory, a body of water—one that existed, in this case, as both a possibility and a memory.

 This exploration became the foundation for what would eventually emerge as 555, a site-specific performance shaped by that submerged presence—felt, imagined, and unearthed through sound.

tinir is a site-specific sound installation made in the context of Animais new media art exhibition at Lisbon.

This installation was a response to be at Oficinas Gerais de Fardamento e Equipamento in Lisbon, and at the same time, an effort to tranduce a listening excercise and a device making strategy developed during Animais New Media Art Residency.

monstro is a site-specific sound installation made in the context of Animais new media art residency at Casa Branca.

This installation emerged from an exercise in situated listening, designed to explore how agencies operating across diverse spatial and temporal scales manifest collectively through a vibrational event. In this instance, a deactivated communal clothesline has transformed into a habitat for small arthropod life forms, inhabiting the hollow interior of resonant metallic structures that respond dynamically to wind forces. The vibrational materiality arising from the interplay of living and non-living agencies is amplified using field recording equipment, generating a dynamic soundscape that encapsulates the interconnected process of mutual becoming.The video above documents an exploratory performance of the installation, which—presented in its purely audio form—was featured as a radio piece in Monteaudio Festival 2024 and in EARS HAVE EYES, Episode 39.
